From Thu, 6/2/2022 to Sun, 6/5/2022, the VIRTUS General Assembly was held first in Lyon and then in Vichy. An extensive program starting on Friday with a press conference in the Congress Center of Lyon to announce and present the Global Games from 4-10.06.2023 in Vichy, on Saturday strategy meetings and discussions in working groups as well as the visit of the numerous sports facilities of Vichy took place and on Sunday, the old president Marc Truffaut was re-confirmed and the VIRTUS Board was newly elected during the General Assembly.
René Schönberger, ÖBSV-KGM Chairman, and Paula Grameiser-Scherl, ÖBSV-KGM Skiing Representative, were able to promote the upcoming VIRTUS World Skiing Championships in March 2023 in Seefeld in Tyrol well. In the course of the VIRTUS conference, Schönberger and Grameiser-Scherl were able to show a Power Point presentation on the preparatory work for the World Skiing Championships in Austria and received very positive feedback.
The highlight of the conference days was and is that alpine skiing will be reclaimed/included as a possible event in the Paralympic program in preparation via Robyn Smith (IPC representative in VIRTUS). The goal is for athletes to be able to participate beginning with II1 2026 and II2 2030. The two ÖBSV-KGM representatives received corresponding support from the American President Barry Holeman.
Finally, René Schönberger and Paula Grameiser-Scherl received commitments from 3 new additional nations that will come to Seefeld with athletes for the Virtus World Skiing Championships next year.
